My Journey to Becoming a Master Myoskeletal Therapist (MMT)
What an incredible journey it has been!
After serving in the Army, I embarked on a new path in 2003 by enrolling in a massage therapy program in Richmond, VA. However, in late 2004, my plans took a detour when I was reactivated and deployed to Kuwait for a year during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This chapter led me to a rewarding six-year career in law enforcement before I decided to relocate to Oregon.
Fast forward to 2018—I felt the undeniable pull back to my original passion: massage therapy. With a deep commitment to helping people move and feel better, I opened my own practice, laying the foundation for meaningful work in wellness.
Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT): A Transformative Journey
The next phase began in February 2023, when I attended a weekend MAT workshop in Corvallis, OR. Under the expert guidance of Heather Norlander and Judy Slater, I immersed myself in hands-on training. After just two transformative days, I knew I needed to explore this field further and eagerly invested in the comprehensive home-study program.
April 2025 saw me continuing my education at a second workshop in San Francisco, led by Nate Fay. Later, in December 2025, I traveled to Costa Rica for the 25th annual Freedom from Pain Institute retreat—an unforgettable experience. Learning directly from Erik Dalton himself was an unparalleled honor, and standing beside him as he handed me my diploma remains one of my most cherished milestones. It was made even more poignant knowing it was his final class before his passing a month later.
Integrating MAT Into My Practice
As I’ve incorporated MAT techniques into my sessions, the results have been remarkable. My clients are consistently amazed by the immediate improvements in mobility and comfort. What sets MAT apart for me is its adaptability—rather than being rigid, it fluidly complements any massage therapy session, empowering the body to move more freely and painlessly.
